Lieutenant Governor Gary R. Herbert

Gary Richard Herbert is Utah's sixth Lieutenant Governor and was elected on November 2, 2004. Prior to his election as Lieutenant Governor, Mr. Herbert served 14 years on the Utah County Commission, earning many awards for his civic and community service. A Realtor(R) by profession, Mr. Herbert is also a veteran of the Utah Army National Guard.

As Lieutenant Governor, and at the discretion of Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., Mr. Herbert leads state efforts concerning homeland security, transportation, water and rural affairs issues.

In addition to these appointed responsibilities, the Lieutenant Governor of Utah is statutorily responsible for: Elections Administration; Lobbyist Activity; Document Authentication; Notaries Public; Political Subdivision Certification; the Utah Commission on Volunteers; the Utah Commission on Civic and Character Education; and other administrative functions.

A former President of the Utah Association of Realtors, Mr. Herbert's public and private sector service has consistently afforded him opportunities to work with diverse groups and interests. Mr. Herbert has also served as the President of the Utah Association of Counties, where he was named as Utah's Outstanding County Commissioner and County Elected Official. He is also the recipient of the National Outstanding Republican County Elected Official of the Year award.

Mr. Herbert is a native Utahn. He and his wife, Jeanette, are the proud parents of six and grandparents of eight.
