Abstract:

This report describes how changes in Medicare payment policies on the revenue of rural physician practices potentially affect physician decisions regarding rural practice. It discusses the Resource-Based Relative Value Scale (RBRVS) as the foundation for the Medicare physician payment system and its importance to policymakers in addressing shortages of rural physician practices. The report includes tables and references.
