HHS Awards $16.7 Million to Provide HIV/AIDS Care

HHS' Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has announced $16.7 million in grants to support HIV/AIDS care and services.

The grants are awarded under the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, which funds care and support services for low-income, uninsured and underinsured individuals affected by the disease. The program, managed by HRSA , helps more than 530,000 medically underserved individuals every year.

The grant awards fall under several Ryan White HIV/AIDS programs:

  • Part C -- Early Intervention Services ($3,050,032). Grants to six organizations in four states and Puerto Rico will support ongoing medical, oral health, nutritional, psychosocial, and other treatment for HIV-positive individuals. Additional Part C awards were announced in April and July.

  • Part D -- Women, Infants, Children, Youth and Affected Family Members AIDS Healthcare ($6,266,614). Seventeen organizations in eight states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico are funded to provide family-centered care. Earlier Part D awards were announced in August.

  • Part F -- Two Special Projects of National Significance (SPNS) awards: (1) Enhancing Linkages to HIV Primary Care in Jail Settings Initiative ($3,964,198), and (2) Information Technology Networks of Care Initiative ($2,943,379). Both will study innovative models for delivering HIV/AIDS care.

A final award, totaling $499,863, will fund Peer Education Training Sites and a Resource and Evaluation Center managed at the Boston University Medical Campus.
