The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
today announced 111 continuation grants totaling $69.4 million
to health care organizations to provide early intervention,
outpatient health care and related services to low-income people
with HIV and AIDS and those at risk of contracting HIV.
The grants, with a Jan. 1, 2002, start date,
help ensure that early HIV care is targeted to those communities
that need it most — particularly rural and remote areas.
The grants are funded under the
Title III Early Intervention Services program of the Ryan
White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act, which
is managed by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s
HIV/AIDS Bureau.
Grant recipients include community-based
clinics and medical centers, hospitals, public health departments
and universities in 30 states, the District of Columbia and
Puerto Rico. All
grantees currently operate Title III-funded programs, having
been awarded these grants in the past.
Typical Title III services include HIV counseling
and testing, medical evaluation and outpatient clinical care.
CARE Act programs fund a broad range of primary health
care and support services for low-income, underinsured and uninsured
people living with HIV/AIDS.
The list of recipients is attached below.
