HHS Secretary Tommy
G. Thompson announced the award of 80 grants totaling $80.9 million
for the construction and improvement of health care facilities in 31
states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Funded by the “Health Care and Other Facilities”
program administered by HHS’s Health Resources and Services Administration,
the grants provide construction and renovation assistance to health
care facilities across the Nation. A variety of projects are being
funded, from an inpatient hospice in Alabama to the purchase of an ultrasound
machine for a pediatric emergency room in Illinois. Other projects
include a geriatric assessment center, a two-story community health
and education center, a facility for children and adults with severe
developmental disabilities, and the remodeling of five cancer
research laboratories.
