HHS Names New Members to Primary Care Advisory Committee

HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson has announced the appointment of eight health care professionals to serve on the Advisory Committee on Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry.  The new members, who will serve until September 2004, are:

  • Michael W. Donohoo, D.D.S, dentist in private practice, Milwaukee, Wis.;
  • Michelle Hauser, P.A.-C., physician assistant in rural practice, Darlington, Wis.;
  • Christopher M. Howard, M.D., resident in medicine/pediatrics, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C.;
  • Ross N. Hugues, D.D.S., resident in pediatric dentistry, University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa;
  • Matilde M. Irigoyen, M.D., professor of clinical pediatrics and clinical public health, Columbia University, New York, N.Y.;
  • Rubens J. Pamies, M.D., professor and chair, Department of Internal Medicine, Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tenn.;
  • Gregory Strayhorn, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair, Department of Family Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta, Ga.; and
  • Craig D. Whiting, D.O., F.A.C.F.P., adjunct professor of general and family practice, University of North Texas Health Science Center, Fort Worth, Texas.

The 23-member committee advises the HHS Secretary and Congress on a wide range of policy and program issues in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, dentistry and physician assistant programs.  Denise V. Rodgers, M.D., associate dean of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, is committee chair.
