Patient Experiences in Rheumatology

  Purpose

This research is being done to learn more about patient experiences at the Johns Hopkins Rheumatology Clinic at Good Samaritan Hospital. We want to learn about the patient, his or her health and experience with the doctor. Up to 75 patients (21 years and older) who are seen in this clinic may participate.

Primary Outcome Measures:
  • Changes in patient and provider satisfaction scores will be measured at 0 and 6 months using self-report.

Secondary Outcome Measures:
  • Concordance between chart notes and patient’s perceptions of visit content.

Detailed Description:

The current study will evaluate the effect of offering a series of workshops to enhance communication skills on both patient and provider satisfaction. Participants will be patients seen in the Fellows Longitudinal Clinic of Johns Hopkins Rheumatology at Good Samaritan Hospital. All fellows currently enrolled in the Division of Rheumatology Training program will participate. (This study has been underwritten by the American College of Rheumatology as part of a fellowship awarded to the PI.)

Ages Eligible for Study:   19 Years and older
Genders Eligible for Study:   Both
Accepts Healthy Volunteers:   Yes
Criteria

All adult patients who have an appointment scheduled at the Rheumatology Clinic at Good Samaritan Hospital, can speak and read English and are willing and capable of providing informed consent are eligible to participate. All fellows in the Rheumatology Fellowship training program will participate.
