Title List of Electronic Records Files in the National Archives and Records Administration

The full Title List: A Preliminary and Partial Listing of the Data Files in the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is no longer available. It has not been updated since 1998. Descriptions for almost all of NARA's series of accessioned electronic records, including file-level descriptions for many of them, are available online through NARA's Archival Research Catalog (ARC). Other sources of information about NARA's electronic records are described below.
However, because ARC does not yet include a few series descriptions and some file-level descriptions for all of the titles from two sections of the out-of-date Title List, you can still access them from this page. The two sections are:
- IV: Department of Defense
Titles are organized by Record Group (RG), series, and then alphabetically by file. - XI: Department of State: U.S. Information Agency (RG 306)
Titles are organized by program, and then chronologically by file.
When reviewing the above sections of the Title List, please note:
- The sections have not been updated since 1998 so they do not include titles of any electronic series or files NARA has accessioned from either the various Department of Defense agencies or the U.S. Information Agency since 1998.
- There are series and file descriptions of electronic records in ARC from agencies of the Department of Defense and from the U.S. Information Agency for which there are no titles in these sections.
- There are detailed descriptions in ARC for some of the titles in these sections. In some cases there are revised titles and/or titles have been reallocated to another record group.
- There are some titles in these sections that are not yet described in ARC.
- For some of the titles, the status codes/comments may no longer be applicable. Please contact staff for current details about a title/file.
Other sources of information about NARA's electronic records
- Most of the Division's data files and other types of electronic records are described in NARA's Archival Research Catalog (ARC), which can be searched by title, type of archival material, dates, location of archival materials, or keyword. To retrieve a list of all electronic records series described in ARC, follow the instructions at: http://www.archives.gov/research/arc/topics/electronic-records.html.
- The Division's informal Reference Reports provide additional descriptions of some series of electronic records, topically arranged.
- Some of NARA's electronic records are available for online search and retrieval through the Access to Archival Databases (AAD) resource.
