Hiker / Visitor Alerts and Current Conditions
Caution! Winter conditions predominate on the Forest now, and visitors should anticipate and prepare for snow and ice, especially on higher elevation trails, as well as on roads (such as the Kancamagus Highway). Also, hikers in Tuckerman and Huntington ravines should be aware that avalanche season has begun. Check here for the latest avalanche conditions.
The Forest Service will dismantle two shelters in the Wild River Wilderness during the summer of 2009. More..
Evans Notch Road (Route 113) is now closed at both ends until May 1, 2009, due to a bridge replacement project over Little Lary Brook. This road is normally closed for the winter beginning about December 1 (depending on weather). Once snow falls, the bridge repair will prohibit snowmobilers from entering the state trail system from Route 2. Maine DOT News Release.

Temporary Closure of a Portion of Hayes Copp Ski Trail
Beginning December 29, 2008, a section of the White Mountain National Forest Hayes Copp Ski Trail in Gorham, NH will be closed for approximately six weeks.

The parking area at the entrance to the South Gale River Road, adjacent to Route 3 in Bethlehem, NH is closed to parking this winter.
