Welcome to the Cimarron National Grassland, one of twenty National Grasslands administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service. Located within Morton and Stevens Counties in southwestern Kansas, the Cimarron National Grassland contains 108,175 acres.

Small But Fun Information

  • Third highest point in the state of Kansas is located on the Grassland, Point of Rocks at 3,540 feet. From here, Colorado and Oklahoma are visible on clear days.
  • Majority of lands acquired under the Bankhead-Jones Farm Tenant Act in 1937.
  • Largest parcel of public land in Kansas.
  • Longest publicly-owned stretch of the Santa Fe Trail in the country.
  • Longest stretch of publically-owned riparian habitat in Kansas can be found along the Cimarron River. Although the Cimarron River is dry most of the year, water can be found 12 to 18 inches below the surface.
