Courtroom closure

Due to work associated with the Supreme Court Modernization Project, the Courtroom will be closed from July 1, 2008 until mid-September 2008, but the building will remain open to the public. During this time no Courtroom lectures will be available, although at times the doors to the Courtroom may be open so that visitors can see inside the room. Visitors will have access to the Great Hall that features marble busts of the Chief Justices. The ground floor offers small topical exhibits, a collection of portraits and busts of Associate Justices, a film on the work of the Court, one of two self-supporting spiral staircases, a cafeteria and gift shop.

Scaffolding

Scaffolding will be erected this summer on both sides of the main entry steps in the front of the Supreme Court building. The scaffolding will allow this part of the building to be surveyed and temporarily repaired as needed and protective netting installed. It is anticipated that the work will take about eight weeks, including the time to erect and remove the scaffolding, and will be completed by mid-September. The scaffolding will not impede access to the steps and front doors of the building.
