School Tours: Color, Line, and Shape

How are color, line, and shape used to make works of art? This tour uses careful looking exercises to help students understand the basic elements of art.
Looking and Learning Skills
During four to six tour stops, students engage in activities—such as looking exercises and working in small groups—that foster conversations about works of art. The following skills are promoted:
- Describing and sharing ideas about the artworks and their elements
- Drawing upon prior knowledge to generate ideas about works of art
- Comparing and contrasting works of art
