Saturday Workshops

Discover! The Indian Paintings of George de Forest Brush
American artist George de Forest Brush was fascinated by the native cultures he encountered on his first trip to the American West in 1881. For the next decade he explored Indian subjects, often focusing on isolated figures engaged in creative pursuits such as weaving, carving, or sculpting. Drawing from the groundbreaking exhibition George de Forest Brush: The Indian Paintings, this workshop examines the artistic and cultural sources of these extraordinary little-known paintings, many of which will be exhibited publicly for the first time.
Fee: $20
Saturday, December 6, 2008
Repeat: Saturday, December 13, 2008
10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Dutch Cityscapes
The Dutch were enormously proud of their cities and depicted them in numerous ways throughout the seventeenth century. Painters delighted in recording the distinctive architectural features of a particular site, changing effects of light, and the countless activities found in market places and on the quays bordering city canals. Based on the special exhibition Pride of Place: Dutch Cityscapes in the Golden Age—which includes some forty-five paintings and a selection of period maps—this workshop examines these richly detailed urban scenes within the historical context of the seventeenth-century Dutch republic.
Fee: $20
Saturday, February 21, 2009
Repeat: Saturday, February 28, 2009
10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
