Track #1 Electronic Health Management

Track 1 will address a long list of new health care information sharing technologies that are reshaping health care in the IHS and throughout the country. Topics include Health Information Exchange (HIE), telemedicine, Master Patient Index (MPI), personal health records (PHR), continuity of care, population health, and the use of new devices and websites. There will be a wide range of presenters from local users with on-site experience to national federal and non-federal experts. Track 1 will be of interest to a broad audience but especially the most progressive cutting edge clinicians, managers, and administrators.

Track #2 Technical

The Technical track is focused on disseminating information related to the maintenance and management of computer hardware and software systems, rather than the use of systems by end users. While user activities may be discussed or used to demonstrate different operational aspects of the topics being addressed, emphasis will on the technical aspects of systems operation. The primary target audience for these presentations will be facility site managers, information technology support staff, and designated application champions/superusers.

Track #3 Practice Management

The Practice Management track is putting structure around how organizations align IT strategy with business strategy. The framework should answer some key questions, such as how the IT department is functioning overall, what key metrics management needs and what return IT is giving back to the business from the investment it’s making. The sessions will address: Leveraging the Triple Constraint – Friend or Foe: Resources, Time, and Scope; Techniques for defining and selecting effective performance measures; GPRA and IT: Measuring the business value of IT, and customer satisfaction; Streamlined acquisition methodologies, IT acquisition best practices; Monitoring and measuring new system development: When and how to "pull the plug" on systems.

Track #4 Security

The Security Track is designed to cover a wide variety of cyber security topics that affect IHS. Security professionals and others who want to gain insight and knowledge about security as it relates to IHS are encouraged to attend. Specific topics presented by the IHS Division of Information Security include: Demonstration of the new online ITAC Form; Overview of Security at IHS; and Wireless in 2008. This track also includes sessions with HHS Secure One Support (SOS) on topics such as: the HHS IT Security Program; Vulnerability Management, Endpoint Security, and other security tools; the HHS Security Operations Center; Incident Response; and HHS Identity. Additional speakers in this track include the IHS Network Operations and Security Center (NOSC) and the Office of Inspector General.

Track #5 Clinical

The Indian Health Service Resource Patient Management System (RPMS) and its related clinical software, recent enhancements, and other health information technology will be presented in nine (9) sessions to provide clinicians and health care professionals with new tools for improved patient care processes and methodology for measuring performance and outcomes. The sessions will address: (1) the Legal Health Record in an electronic environment; (2) Vista Imaging considerations in the health care environment; (3) Chronic Care Initiative and its relationship to Information Technology; (4) Bar Code Medication Administration and building infrastructure to support it; (5) Health Information Technology Topics Panel to include Telepharmacy, Clinical Reporting System, Electronic Health Record (EHR), Women’s Health application, PCC+, Accreditation Medication Safety Standards, and the IHS Suicide form; (6) Inpatient EHR; (7) Documenting Behavioral Health services in the EHR; (8) Telehealth and TeleMental Health; and (9) RPMS Best Practices in multidisciplinary care.

Track #6 Hands on Lab

The Hands on Lab Track is focused on supporting the conference tracks by providing hands on use of technologies that are critical to all aspects of Indian Health Care Management. Health care technicians, managers, and other conference attendees will have the opportunity to apply what was presented during selected track sessions and to ask questions of the technical experts.
