Flagstaff, AZ —A wildfire that began sometime Saturday morning, caused by an abandoned campfire, is now fully contained.  Located northwest of Lower Lake Mary, the Late Fire burned approximately 140 acres and resulted in smoke impacting the Lake Mary Meadows area.

  • Fire Name:  Late Fire
  • Date Started:  November 22, 2008
  • Location: Northwest of Lower Lake Mary
  • Cause:  Human-caused (abandoned campfire)
  • Fuels:  Ponderosa Pine and brush.
  • Acres Burned:  Approximately 140 acres
  • Percent Contained: 100 percent
  • Closures:  No road/trail closures are in effect.
  • Summary:  Smoke should have minimal impacts to the surrounding area.  Fire managers from the Peaks Ranger District will continue to monitor and evaluate fire conditions daily.

As a reminder to Flagstaff residents, the Forest Service will be conducting a broadcast burn of up to 200 acres today as part of the Eastside-Project. The burning will take place south of Timberline, off Government Tank Road.  Smoke is expected to stay west of Timberline and Hwy 89 and disperse northwest with the forecast winds. Light impacts in Timberline may occur during the ignition phase.  Residual smoke will likely settle around the Timberline and Doney Park areas overnight but should rise and disperse shortly thereafter.

There will be no prescribed burns planned for the remainder of the week.
