Position Overview

Responsible for inventory management and shop floor control functions for Manufacturing Operations at TA-55. Utilize the LANL Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) system on the classified network to plan, maintain, and verify inventory levels. Responsible for the generation of routers and travelers used in the manufacture of mark quality parts. Utilize MRP to troubleshoot and create innovative solutions to inventory and shop floor process problems. Integrate with other Production Control, Operations, and Product Engineering personnel in the development of routers and travelers. Flexibility and skills to provide backup to all key Production Control positions at TA-55 including coordination, planning, and status of work in process.

Key Position Requirements

Demonstrated strong organizational and housekeeping skills. Demonstrated strong computer skills to include knowledge of inventory systems and management practices. Ability to adhere to manufacturing policies, programs, procedures and practices. Demonstrated attention to detail. This position will be directly responsible for adhering to requirements that establish accountability for classified parts and mark quality.

Summary

Execute authorized demand for products across product families and within production line and according to a master production schedule to meet programmatic productive demand. Applies general and working knowledge of manufacturing processes and product definition and structure in a product family or within a production line. Executes resource-scheduling functions following production plans. Performs manufacturing resource planning processes according to authorized boundary conditions. Performs shop floor scheduling and status management processes including inventory control and management. Works with operational manufacturing and quality personnel to integrate real-time scheduling issues and manage of work control and release for product families or production lines. Transforms master production schedules into established inventory levels and work-in-process to control short-range manufacturing schedules. Works with purchasing functions in obtaining material, equipment and services. Executes work such that quality and manufacturing documentation and configuration management requirements are met.

A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of specialized area plus working knowledge of other related fields. Resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. This job is the fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position. Provides resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Contributes to the development of organization's goals and objectives. Works under limited direction; receives general instructions on new assignments. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Determines approach to solutions, plans schedule and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives.

Job Duties

  3. Researches, assembles, and/or evaluates information or data regarding industry practices or applicable regulatory changes affecting manufacturing policies or programs; recommends sound, practical solutions to complex issues.
  4. Demonstrates working knowledge within area of discipline and skills that contribute to the completion of operational/programmatic objectives.
  5. Applies standard production and/or inventory control principles, theories, concepts and techniques within discipline.
  6. May contribute to the resolutions to an assortment of problems of moderately complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
  7. Under direction of senior staff, performs conventional production and/or inventory control work.
  8. May provide input to the development of individual goals and objectives.
  9. Defined by discipline, work is accomplished under the limited direction of a manger/senior/staff production control member.
  10. Utilizes production and/or inventory control technology tools, programs, and processes to resolve minor issues. 
  11. Knows production and/or inventory control disciplines.
  12. Assignments may be pre-defined and work may be reviewed while in progress for accuracy, soundness of judgment, and overall adequacy.
  13. Uses latitude in the methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  14. Work is evaluated on completion to ensure objectives have been met.
  15. Promotes and demonstrates a mutually respectful work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.

Job Knowledge

  • (Within discipline) Knowledge of production and/or inventory control, applications of production/inventory control methods, and application of technology aided tools to conventional and non-conventional programmatic and operations-based production/inventory control problems.
  • Knowledge of production and inventory control and planning methods.
  • Knowledge of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards and guides.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and control practices, including cycle counting and physical inventory management practices
  • Knowledge of resource planning and optimization practices as well as multi-organization resource integration processes
  • Awareness and willing to learn of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the particular engineering discipline.
  • Awareness and willing to learn of supply chain management and resource management practices.

Education

  • Position typically requires  related experience, A recognized bachelor’s or higher degree in an engineering, scientific, or business management discipline, from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years practical work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Direction

A. Supervision Received

  • Receives supervision and technical guidance from a senior/staff production control and/or group management. Work is evaluated on completion to ensure objectives have been met.

B. Supervision Exercised

  • May direct the work of technician staff.

C. Contacts

  • Regular contact with group management and general staff.
