Specifically, WT Division provides engineering and technological expertise and support to the Nuclear Weapons Program through: design and assembly of small and large scale integrated experiments and ancillary hardware; environmental testing and advanced diagnostics; HE processing and manufacturing; inventory, packaging, and transportation of classified parts and hazardous materials; design, analysis, and testing of blast-loaded structures including small and large scale blast-loaded containment and confinement vessels; Nevada Test Site Engineering and Operations; and Tritium Science and Engineering. The Weapons Testing Design Drafting Group (WT-8) has the primary responsibility of providing mechanical design, drafting, and fielding support to the Nuclear Weapons experimental programs portfolio which primarily includes the Hydrodynamic Testing and Dynamic Plutonium Experiments programs. The successful candidate for this position will provide design/drafting support for deployed mechanical design/drafting teams. The successful candidate must be able to exercise personal initiative in successfully completing assigned tasks, and will work under the direction of an engineer or senior-level designer/drafter. The successful candidate will produce sketches and layouts, generate 3-dimensional models, and shall produce high quality mechanical drawings. The candidate will also be expected to aid in preparing graphics for presentations or publications. Work in fabrication shops or outdoors at a Laboratory firing site will be occasionally required. The successful candidate will work in high performing teams with personnel from across the Laboratory with varied backgrounds and disciplines. Flexibility, responsiveness, and multi-tasking are key job requirements for this position. The successful candidate will perform work in adherence to Laboratory and program requirements.
