Abstract:

One of the informational materials developed for the Lower Extremity Amputation Prevention (LEAP) public service campaign sponsored by HRSA's Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) to reduce lower extremity amputations in individuals with diabetes mellitus, Hansen's disease, or any condition that results in loss of protective sensation in the feet. Provides detailed instructions for clinicians and consumers on how to use the LEAP filament (see PC548) to identify persons who are at risk of losing or who have lost protective sensation in the feet.
