Biography

Kenneth Craig Hyams, MD, MPH

Dr. Kenneth Craig Hyams currently is the Chief Consultant of the Occupational and Environmental Health Strategic Healthcare Group, Office of Public Health and Environmental Hazards, in the Department of Veterans Affairs.  He received a BA degree from the University of Texas, Austin, Texas, an MD degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas, and a MPH degree from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland.  Dr. Hyams is board certified in the specialties of internal medicine and infectious diseases. 

Dr. Hyams has had extensive experience evaluating Gulf War health questions and directing epidemiological research studies of U.S. military forces.  Also, Dr. Hyams served in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Shield, helping to establish the Navy Forward Laboratory in El-Jubail Saudi Arabia, and therefore has a first-hand understanding of this unique military deployment.  Before joining the VA, Dr. Hyams served on active duty in the U.S. Navy where he was the Director of the Epidemiology Department, Naval Medical Research Institute, Bethesda, Maryland.
