Communication between marrow donor and patient
  Question

Can patients meet or communicate with their unrelated marrow donor from the Registry of the C.W. Bill Young Cell Transplantation Program?

  Answer

Strict confidentiality standards are followed to protect the privacy of both the patient and the marrow donor.  Some countries have laws or policies preventing communication between a marrow donor and patient.

If the patient and marrow donor consent and the transplant center, donor center and donor registry allow communication:

  •  During the first year after the transplant, the patient and marrow donor may communicate anonymously and the transplant center may provide up to three updates to the marrow donor.
  • One or more years after the transplant, the patient and marrow donor may have direct contact.
