FLETC Training Programs Receive Accreditation

Glynco, GA July 27, 2007

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board granted accreditation status to four FLETC programs; Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP), Law Enforcement Instructor In-Service Training Program (LEIITP), Physical Fitness Coordinator Training Program (PFCTP)*, and Inland Boat Operators Training Program (IBOT) on July 19, 2007.

FLETA Board Chairperson Sharon Henegan stated, “The purpose of FLETA is to enhance the quality of Federal law enforcement by establishing and maintaining a body of standards for Federal law enforcement training.” The FLETA Board requires that an agency or academy accredit its required and essential basic and instructor training programs to maintain Academy Accreditation. The FLETC is currently pursing the accreditation of the remaining four required and essential basic and instructor training programs needed to maintain FLETC Academy Accreditation, which was received in March 2006.

Standards for FLETA Accreditation were established by a core group of training professionals from Federal agencies and that these standards received FLETA Board approval in March 2005. Currently, there are more than twenty-five Federal law enforcement agencies participating in the accreditation process. FLETA Accreditation of a Federal law enforcement academy or training program provides assurance to the citizens they serve, that the agency has voluntarily submitted to a process of self-regulation and successfully achieved compliance with a set of standards that have been collectively established by their peers within their professional community that demonstrate adherence to quality, effectiveness and integrity.

FLETC Director Connie Patrick stated, “The accreditation of these programs continues to testify to the excellence of training FLETC offers to federal, state, local, tribal, and international law enforcement agencies. The FLETC staff is committed to meeting the needs of those who protect our homeland. The accreditation of FLETC programs is further proof that we provide training that enables our partners to accomplish their missions.
