Search Overview [Top]
The definitions for the various search criteria can be found on the Grant Terminology page. You can search for the funding opportunities using the following guidelines. Enter one or a combination of criteria to search for the funding opportunity you are interested in. To broaden your search leave all boxes empty:

  1. Key Program Areas: Allows you to search based on the program area.
  2. CFDA Number: To search for the opportunity using the CFDA number, enter the number in the format (93.NNN, for example 93.224). CFDA Number for an announcement is available in the HRSA Preview.
  3. Funding Opportunity Name: Enter the name of the announcement from the HRSA Preview to search based on the name. You can enter partial name.
  4. HRSA Preview Announcement Code: To search for the opportunity using the HRSA Preview Announcement Code, provide the announcement code. Announcement codes are listed in the HRSA Preview. Example CIOP.
  5. HRSA Preview Announcement Number: To search for the opportunity using the HRSA Preview Announcement Number, provide the announcement number. Announcement numbers are listed in the HRSA Preview. Example HRSA-04-004.
    Note that you can enter partial announcement numbers. For example to lookup HRSA-04-004, simply enter 004 or 4.
  6. Application Deadline: By default opportunities within the next 6 months are displayed, but you can enter a range of dates to limit your search.
  7. Provisional: You can choose to filter the results based on whether the announcement is provisional or final.
  8. Online Availability: You can choose to filter the results based on whether the program accepts online applications.
  9. Cooperative Agreement: You can choose to filter the results based on whether the program involves substantial Federal involvement.
  10. Search Archive: If you wish to look up an announcement whose application deadline has passed, select this option. Announcements are usually archived 90 days after the application deadline has passed. Using this search option will pull results for the current as well as the last two fiscal years.
How can I get more information about a particular funding opportunity? [Top]
Funding opportunity results view includes relevant information to help you sort through the results. If you wish to view the full text of the announcement, select 'View Details' from the drop down menu.

The detailed view includes full text of the announcement, application guidance materials and links to more information. In addition any updates to the original announcement are also available.
How can I view or download the related documents? [Top]
In the detailed view, additional information in the form of documents such as application forms, guidance material may be available. In order to view/save a file, click on the filename. The file will be opened by your browser using the default software set up on your machine. In order to view the file you will need appropriate software. Links are provided at the bottom of the page to download the relevant software in case you do not have it.
What is modification history? [Top]
Some times HRSA will issue updates to a published announcement. For example when a provisional program is made final an update may be issued. In cases where modifications or amendments are issued, the original announcement along with the updated versions is available in the modification history section.
On the page showing the details of an announcement, sometimes I see 'Related Opportunities'. What are these? [Top]
Sometimes the same announcement includes multiple application deadlines. In this case the same announcement number will return multiple matches, one for each unique application deadline listed on the announcement.

Sometimes the same announcement includes multiple program purposes. In this case the same announcement number will return multiple matches with different activity codes.

You can use the related opportunities button to find all opportunities with the same announcement number.
Electronic Submission Overview [Top]
Electronic applications can be submitted to HRSA through ONE of the following two options:
  1. Grants.gov - www.grants.gov
  2. HRSA Electronic Handbooks (EHBs) - This website.
Decision regarding electronic submission is made by HRSA for each opportunity before or at the time of application guidance release. You can view the electronic submission information for each opportunity on the "results" and the "details" pages. Following fields should be monitored to understand the electronic submission capabilities and status for each opportunity:
  • Allow Electronic Submission - Possible values are Yes, No and To Be Announced
  • Guidance Availability - After the guidance is issued, a decision regarding electronic submission should be available
  • Electronic Submission Instruction - A short note to describe the current status of electronic submission. Possible messages are:
    • Information on electronic submission is currently not available - Indicates that decision is pending.
    • Electronic submission is not available for this funding opportunity - Indicates that applications must be submitted by paper.
    • Electronic submission will be available in HRSA Electronic Handbooks - Indicates that electronic submissions will be available through EHBs at a future date.
    • Electronic submission is available in HRSA Electronic Handbooks - Indicates that electronic submissions are currently available through EHBs.
    • Electronic submission will be available in Grants.gov - Indicates that electronic submissions will be available through Grants.gov at a future date.
    • Electronic submission is/will be available in Grants.gov - Indicates that electronic submissions are currently available through Grants.gov or should be available shortly.
    • Electronic submission will be available in HRSA Electronic Handbooks and Grants.Gov. - Indicates that electronic submissions will be available through EHBs and Grants.gov at a future date.
    • Electronic submission is/will be available in HRSA Electronic Handbooks and Grants.Gov. - Indicates that electronic submissions are currently available through EHBs. Also, it's available through Grants.gov or should be available shortly.
Depending on the status of each opportunity a message regarding electronic submission is available for your convenience. Learn more.

Note that applications can always be submitted through paper. Please refer to the guidance for specific instructions. However, we strongly encourage you to submit your applications electronically!
What are "Notes" shown in the context of each opportunity? [Top]
For your convenience, each funding opportunity record in "results" page has a "Note" to explain the status of electronic submission. The same message is also displayed at the top of the "detail" page. Following are the possible messages:
  • Information on the electronic submission of application for this funding opportunity is not available. Please revisit this site at a later date.
  • Electronic submission of application will not be available for this funding opportunity. Please refer to the guidance for information on the submission of paper application.
  • Electronic submission of application will be available on Grants.Gov for this funding opportunity. Please visit www.grants.gov to register and apply. Paper applications can also be submitted. Please refer to the guidance for more information.
  • Electronic submission of application is/will be available on Grants.Gov for this funding opportunity. Please visit www.grants.gov to register and apply. Paper application can also be submitted. Please refer to the guidance for more information.
  • Electronic submission of application is available on HRSA Electronic Handbooks. Please select 'Begin Application' and click on 'Go' button to start a new electronic application.
  • Electronic submission of application will be available on HRSA Electronic Handbooks from onwards.
  • Electronic submission of application will be available on HRSA Electronic Handbooks and Grants.Gov for this funding opportunity. Please revisit this site at a later date to apply in HRSA Electronic Handbooks. To apply in Grants.Gov, visit www.grants.gov site. Refer to the guidance for more information.
  • Electronic submission of application is/will be available on HRSA Electronic Handbooks and Grants.Gov for this funding opportunity. The same announcement number can have multiple opportunities based on the application deadline or different program purposes. Select the correct opportunity based on review of guidance and your needs.
