The Washington National Records Center (WNRC) in Suitland, Maryland, provides records management services to headquarters and field offices of Federal agencies located in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. It also serves Federal Courts located in the District of Columbia and Armed Forces worldwide.

Federal Register

The Office of the Federal Register (OFR) provides access to the official text of:

  • Federal Laws
  • Presidential Documents
  • Administrative Regulations and Notices
  • Descriptions of Federal Organizations, Programs and Activities

We also administer the Electoral College and the Constitutional Amendment process.

All National Archives research rooms will be closed on January 19 for the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. Washington, DC-area research rooms will be closed on January 20 for the President's Inauguration. The National Archives museum in Washington will be open on both days.

Records Temporarily Unavailable

  • Attention Researchers:
    Some of the RG 110 (Civil War) records are being relocated from the National Archives Building in Washington, DC, to NARA's regional locations beginning August 11, 2008. The records will temporarily be unavailable during the move, but will reopen for public access at the regional locations on December 8, 2008.
