New York Power Authority Hosts Sunday Afternoons At the Movies

NORTH BLENHEIM—Warm up those January weekends with action-packed movie classics at the admission-free visitors center at the New York Power Authority’s Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage Power Project.

The featured films, all beginning at 2 p.m., are as follows:  

Sunday, Jan. 4 – “High Noon,” starring Grace Kelly and Gary Cooper (1952).

Sunday, Jan. 11 – “Drums Along the Mohawk,” starring Henry Ford and Claudette Colbert (1939).

Sunday, Jan. 18 – “The Great Escape,” starring Steve McQueen and James Garner (1962).

Sunday, Jan. 25 – “North to Alaska,” starring John Wayne and Stewart Granger (1960).

NYPA’s handicapped-accessible facility is housed in a restored 19th-century dairy barn and features hands-on exhibits for students of all ages and abilities. Visitors can learn how this pumped-storage power project acts like a giant battery, generating hydroelectricity while recycling water between two huge reservoirs. Other displays demonstrate the basics of electricity, energy production and conservation. 

Throughout the year, the Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center is open to the public seven days a week, except for certain holidays.
