Science Tobacco & You

This is a multidisciplinary, multimedia science curriculum geared toward middle and high school students. The goal: Promote scientific literacy by encouraging students to ask and answer questions.

Science, Tobacco & You encourages students to investigate questions – about their bodies, tobacco and how tobacco affects their bodies – and then provides the resources for them to find the answers. All activities are correlated to the Sunshine State Standards and the National Science Standards. Each component of the program is supplemental or can be used as a stand-alone, depending upon individual classroom needs or restrictions.

The curriculum package contains:

The curriculum contains nine modules and dozens of student activities, which are also offered in Spanish. Specific areas covered in the materials are:

  • Structure of the respiratory and circulatory systems
  • Function of the respiratory and circulatory systems
  • Respiration and pulse
  • Lung capacity
  • Environmental tobacco smoke
  • Tobacco's effect on the body
  • Nutrition
