Picture of Indian Made pottery.

We envision a future where the Forest Service and Indian Tribes work collaboratively through government-to-government relationships to manage the resources entrusted to their care, a future where the Forest Service has the organizational structure, skills and policies to redeem our responsibilities in this partnership...

We must manage National Forest System lands and resources entrusted to our care for the benefit of the American public, while respecting the special trust relationship of the United States towards Indian Tribes. Our challenge is to meet obligations required by legal authority, while conserving ecosystem values and providing natural resource benefits, and to fulfill our part of the Federal government's legal and ethical responsibilities to Indian Tribes. The Office of Tribal Relations reports to the Deputy Chief, State & Private Forestry. We are governed by federal policies, reports, regulations.
