The National Gallery of Art is a federal government institution and is required to conform to federal civil service regulations and procedures in filling its vacancies. Most of our positions are federally funded; however, there are privately funded positions as well. United States citizenship is required for all federal jobs and for permanent privately funded positions.

There are approximately 1,000 employees working at the National Gallery. While many positions require a background in art history, there are also numerous positions for employees involved with aspects of the museum's daily operations. Salespeople, security guards, and visitor service aides assist the millions of people visiting the Gallery each year. We also offer employment opportunities in library science, accounting, fundraising, facilities management, administration, information systems, and other technical areas.

A complete listing of vacancy announcements for which we are currently recruiting can be found on the Web site of the Office of Personnel Management. We usually issue vacancy announcements on Fridays, so please check back regularly for new opportunities. Our automated Jobline is accessible 24 hours per day, 7 days per week at (202) 842-6298.
