The leading digits represent the Title number, in this case, "35."  U.S. Laws are divided into numbered Titles.

The "USC" represents United States Code

The symbol, "§" represents Section

The next numbers indicate the Section Number

The parentheses indicate a particular paragraph within the section, in this case "(a)."

   Example: 15 CFR §123(a)

The leading digits represent the Title number, in this case, "15."  Federal Regulations are divided into various Titles.

The "CFR" represents the Code of Federal Regulations

The symbol, "§" represents Section
