Han K. Lang, Dr. PH
Director, Environmental Epidemiology Service
Dr.
Kang is an epidemiologist and serves as Director of the
Environmental Epidemiology Service of the US Department of Veterans
Affairs. For the last
17 years, Dr. Kang's research interest has been focused primarily on
the health of U.S. military and veteran populations who were
potentially exposed to environmental/occupational hazards during
their military service. These
groups included WWII veterans exposed to mustard gas, veterans who
received nasopharyngeal radium irradiation, veterans who
participated in atmospheric nuclear weapons testing, Korean War
veterans who received cold injuries, Vietnam veterans who were
potentially exposed to Agent Orange and combat stress, and Gulf War
veterans. In addition
to conducting epidemiologic studies, he performs health surveillance
on these veterans using the Ionizing Radiation Registry, Agent
Orange Registry, Gulf War Health Registry, and VA’s inpatient and
outpatient databases.
Dr.
Kang received a doctorate in public health from UCLA in 1976, and
has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed scientific
journals. He maintains academic affiliation with the George
Washington University as associate Professor of Epidemiology and he
is a fellow of the American College of Epidemiology.
