Special Handling of Absentee Ballots for Georgia Runoff Election on December 2, 2008

As noted in News Release # 21, Georgia will hold a runoff election for the following federal and statewide offices on December 2, 2008.

In response to the needs of Georgia voters, the Department of Defense and the United States Postal Service will be continuing our collaboration to provide expedited service for absentee ballots going to and coming from overseas military post offices through December 5, 2008. The Special Handling Service will ensure that all postal personnel expeditiously process and transport outbound and returning ballots with APO and FPO addresses. Materials will be specifically identified in the postal network with special absentee ballot trays, tape and tags. Additionally, voted ballots entered into the military postal system by a voter can be sent free-of-charge via Express Mail Service to the local election office if the voter chooses. This will save valuable transit time which is especially beneficial in the week leading up to the ballot deadline.
