Over $3.6 Million Approved for Tornado Survivors in Five Counties

THOMASVILLE, Ga. -- State and federal disaster recovery officials said today that more than $3.6 million in disaster assistance funding has been approved for eligible residents in five tornado-raked southwest Georgia counties.
To date, 590 residents have called the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) toll-free teleregistration number (1-800-462-9029) to enroll for a wide range of recovery programs including: financial aid for various types of disaster housing needs, individual and family grants (IFG) and disaster-related, low-interest, loans from the Small Business Administration (SBA).

Other key numbers:
- FEMA has issued 279 housing inspection requests to verify damage caused by the tornadoes. Over 85 percent, or 238, of those inspections have been completed.
- Nearly 600 registrants have visited the state/federal Disaster Recovery Center located on the 4th floor of the Camilla City Hall, 30 East Broad Street, to ask on-site program specialists about recovery programs or to provide assistance with loan applications. The Center is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Over 300 registrants have used the FEMA Helpline (1-800-525-0321) to follow-up on individual applications after previously registering for assistance.
Toll-free teleregistration operates from 8 a.m.-6 p.m (ET), daily. Individuals with hearing or speech impairments who use special keyboard equipment (TTY) should call 1-800-462-7585.
