Oklahoma City, OK -- Residents and business owners who have not yet registered for federal and state disaster assistance have only three more weeks to apply. July 9, 2003, is the last day to file applications for most disaster assistance programs, according to federal and state disaster recovery officials.
So far, 3,658 Oklahomans in the disaster declared counties have already registered for assistance. Disaster assistance funds totaling $9.4 million have been approved.
Homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained damage from the severe storms and tornadoes that affected Oklahoma between May 8 and May 30 of 2003 are encouraged to apply. Call the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free number, 800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY: 800-462-7585 for the hearing or speech impaired to register. The telephone numbers are operational from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday.
Applicants may qualify for assistance under several federal and state programs such as disaster housing assistance, grants to meet disaster-related needs, U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster loans, or farm loans from the Farm Service Agency.

Representatives are available from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., CST, Monday through Friday to answer questions about the assistance process or the status of applications.
