The Marine Protected Areas Federal Advisory Committee released recommendations developed from their December 2008 meeting in Monterey, California; the first deals with linking ocean observation systems with the national system of MPAs; and the second deals with means of evaluating the national system of MPAs.

The final management plan from three co-trustee agencies (NOAA, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources) describes a comprehensive and coordinated management regime to achieve the vision, mission and guiding principles of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, and to address priority management needs over the next 15 years.
