Trans-NIH Workshop on Executive Function

This workshop was cosponsored by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institute of Mental Health, National Institute on Drug Abuse, National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and NIA's NNA Program as a followup on NIA's workshop, Executive Functions, held in January 2003. The goals of the Trans-NIH Workshop on Executive Function were to:

  • Convene leaders of the larger cognitive neuroscience field to discuss new perspectives, research findings, and controversies in executive function
  • Assess the state of knowledge regarding executive function in the healthy and injured/diseased states
  • Set a research agenda for future studies of executive function

The proceedings of this 2 ½-day workshop are published in a peer-reviewed journal. Recommendations from this meeting on how to promote multidisciplinary research in issues central to the study of executive function in neurological, mental, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and age-related disorders were prepared and presented at the subsequent Council.
