Description: The National Cancer Institute's Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities is pleased to announce the third in a series of lectures exploring issues related to health disparities and the unequal burden of disease in American society. The lecture will feature Michael Omi, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Ethnic Studies and Acting Director of the Institute for the Study of Social Change, University of California–Berkeley.

Dr. Omi is the author of "Racial Formation in the United States." His talk, entitled “Counting in the Dark: Racial Classification, the Census, and the Concept of Race,” will address the question of how we understand the necessity of racial classification and its meaning for group claims of recognition, the formation of multiracial identities, and social issues such as racial profiling.
