Geographic Information - Statistical Maps of Japan  (http://www.stat.go.jp/english/data/chiri/map/index.htm)
The Statistics Bureau of the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications includes these Statistical Maps of Japan on its website. Geographic information includes a population census from 2000, maps of workers and students commuting to large cities, population census statistics from 1960 to 2000, and establishment and enterprise census statistics from 2001.

Geographical Survey Institute (GSI)  (http://www.gsi.go.jp/ENGLISH/index.html)
The Geographical Survey Institute is a national surveying and mapping organization of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and was established in 1869. The GSI is the only national organization that conducts basic survey and mapping and instructs related organizations as to the conditions of land in Japan.

Inoh Map Collection at the National Diet Library of Japan / 国立国会図書館 大日本沿海輿地全図   (http://www.ndl.go.jp/exhibit/50/html/wb39-6/mokuji.html)
NDL has digitized its collection of 43 large-scale Inoh maps and has made them available on the web. These are 1873 reproductions of the originals that were created between 1800 and 1821 by Inoh Tadataka and his staff of surveyors. The team completed 214 large-scale maps that covered all of Japan.

Japan Atlas is a guide to the geography of Japan but it also includes information on historic sites, festivals, architecture, crafts and has an index by region.

The Japan Map Center site includes topics related to maps, links to Japanese maps themselves, related activities, and services provided by the Japan Map Center.

Japanese Historical Maps from the East Asian Library, UC Berkeley  (http://www.davidrumsey.com/japan/about.html)
The David Rumsey Collection includes 18th and 19th century historical North and South American atlases, globes, school geographies, maritime charts, and separate maps including wall, pocket, and manuscript.

Kobe University Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Disaster Materials Collection / 震災文庫   (http://www.lib.kobe-u.ac.jp/eqb/e-index.html)
This is a digital archive of materials related to the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, which occurred on January 17, 1995. With information regarding initial relief, emergency rescue, reconstruction, earthquake research, and disaster-prevention measures, the collection continues to grow. In addition to the searchable archive of documents, the site includes a digital gallery of leaflets and photographs. A complete list of data can be accessed from the Japanese site.
