Abstract:

This report examines overweight and obesity as major public health problems and that preventing and treating these conditions and their associated health problems are important public health goals. To achieve these goals, this report is committed to promoting the recognition of overweight and obesity as major public health problems, assisting Americans to achieve and maintain a healthier body weight by balancing eating and physical exercise, identifying effective and culturally appropriate interventions to prevent and treat overweight and obesity, encouraging environmental changes to help prevent overweight and obesity, and to develop and enhance public-private partnerships to help implement this vision. It includes tables, figures, and references.
