Created in 1970, The New Jersey Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) was the first office of its kind in the United States. OEMS is part of the department's Division of Health Infrastructure Preparedness and Emergency Response.
OEMS maintains the certification of more than 22,000 Emergency Medical Technician-Basics (EMT-B's) and 1,500 Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedics (EMT-P's) as well as the provider licensure of mobility assistant vehicles, ambulances, mobile intensive care units, specialty care transport units and air medical units totaling more than 4,500 vehicles.

If you or your service are questioned or stopped by someone claiming to be an OEMS employee and you do not know that person, ask to see his/her state-issued ID card. If you have any further questions after seeing the ID card, please call OEMS for confirmation of the person's identity.
