Oklahoman re-elected to American Farm Bureau board of directors
Oklahoma Farm Bureau President Mike Spradling, has been re-elected to the American Farm Bureau Federation board of directors. He will seve a two-year term. "This is one of the greatest jobs I could have," Spradling, who resides in Sand Springs, said. "It's at the top of our leadership structure and allows me to see how much impact my involvement has at the national level." MORE>

As the new Congress and the Obama administration prepare to take up proposals to address the current economic recession and climate change concerns, they must enact policies on taxes and the environment that promote economic growth, said delegates at the 90th American Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting. President-elect Barack Obama has selected former Governor Tom Vilsack of Iowa to serve as his secretary of agriculture. MORE>

DCP sign-up begins
Enrollment for the 2009 Direct and Counter-cyclical Payment (DCP) Program for farms with base acres began Dec. 22 both online and at local USDA service centers and will continue until June 1, 2009, according to USDA. MORE>

TRUCKING ISSUE
Farm Truck Regulations
Over the past several months, there have been many concerns and questions about the regulations that farm vehicles fall under. The Oklahoma Department of Safety, along with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, have put to together an informational brochure for farmers and ranchers to help answer some of these questions. The brochure can be found on the Oklahoma Department of Safety’s Web site at http://www.dps.state.ok.us/ohp/troops.htm.
