An Investigation of Skulls

Few classrooms have skulls available for student study, so we've created life-size, cut-and-fold boxes for the skulls of 10 mammals living in the Arctic Refuge: caribou, grizzly bear, wolf, wolverine, red fox, lynx, weasel (ermine), snowshoe hare, arctic ground squirrel, and collared lemming.

Teachers -- Do you want your students to cut out and glue the skull boxes for you? We've set up each box so you can identify it by a number but your students won't know which skull they are constructing.

These skull boxes were created by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service with assistance from the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District and the University of Alaska's Museum of the North. Use of these skull boxes by educators for classroom and field purposes is authorized and encouraged. All other uses, please contact Cathy Curby at arctic_refuge@fws.gov.

The skull boxes are available below in two printable pdf versions (PDF information). Set your printer to print only on one side of each page. The boxes will be more durable if printed on card stock and filled with crumpled paper:
