Fenty and Director of the Office of Unified Communications Janice Quintana celebrated National Customer Service Week by personally answering calls at the Unified Communications Center. 311 is the 24 hour, 365 day-a-year number to reach the government of the District of Columbia for information and non-emergency services. Great Public Space. The American Planning Association named Union Station one of the 10 Great Public Spaces in America 2008, recognizing it as one of the most accessible, creative, interactive, functional and enjoyable public places in the country. Union Station’s interior and exterior spaces create a unique, interactive public space that welcomes city residents as well as many of the city’s 25 million annual visitors.

Development on Anacostia Waterfront. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty along with executives of Florida Rock Properties unveiled plans for more than a million square feet of development at the foot of Nationals Park along the Anacostia River. As a condition of the zoning approval, Florida Rock agreed to donate $800,000 to the District to help pay for the construction of Diamond Teague Park.Read more >>

Centenarians in the District. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty and the District Office of Aging hosted the 22nd annual Centenarian Salute on October 8 to recognize District persons who have reached the age of 100 years and older. Currently, 96 centenarians are registered with the Office on Aging.

Expanded Recycling Program. Mayor Adrian Fenty announced that starting October 6, recycling collection crews will accept an expanded list of items for recycling, especially plastics. Now residents can recycle film plastics like grocery, produce, and dry cleaning bags, as well as aerosol cans and a variety of rigid plastics including plastic lawn furniture, toys and flower pots.Read more >>
