Collecting and analyzing data about patients who have received a bone marrow or cord blood transplant is helpful for physicians as well as patients and their families. The data currently on this Web site were collected using two different criteria.
- U.S. Transplant Data provides statistics about transplants performed at transplant centers in the United States. The cells used for these transplants were from these donor types:
- Autologous (the patient)
- Related allogeneic (a patient’s sibling or another family member)
- Unrelated allogeneic (a volunteer donor)
The cells for transplant can be collected from bone marrow, peripheral blood or umbilical cord blood after a baby is born.

- Registry Transplant Data includes statistics about transplants using an unrelated marrow donor or cord blood unit from the Registry of the C.W. Bill Young Cell Transplantation Program, including cord blood units from the National Cord Blood Inventory (NCBI). The transplants were performed at transplant centers throughout the world.
