AlternaTIFF is a web browser add-on (ActiveX control or plug-in) that displays most of the common types of TIFF image files. It works in most web browsers for 32-bit versions of Windows (95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Vista, etc.).

Current ActiveX version: 1.8.4 (21 May 2008)
Current plug-in version: 1.8.5 (12 Nov 2008)

AlternaTIFF is free to use for any purpose; however, you will be required to register it before it can be used to view images. You will be told how to register when you install it, or when you first use it to view an image. (You do not need to search this web site looking for a way to register. If you are not asked to register, it means your computer has already been registered.)

AlternaTIFF is available as either a Netscape-style plug-in or an ActiveX control for IE. Please choose from the following three options (there are two download methods available for the ActiveX control). If you use Internet Explorer, you should probably select option 1. Otherwise, select option 3. Netscape 8 users should install option 1 (for "Display Like IE" mode) or 3 (for "Display Like Firefox" mode) or both.

1. ActiveX control, auto-install
For Internet Explorer 4.x and higher.

Note: If you are using a version of Windows with security features (Windows NT, 2000, XP), you will need to be logged into your computer as a user who has permission to install ActiveX controls. For Vista, you must be able to acquire sufficient privileges.
2. ActiveX control, in a downloadable ZIP file
For advanced users of Internet Explorer 4.x and higher.

This version can be downloaded once and installed on multiple computers, but it requires an unzip utility, and knowledge of how to manipulate files and folders.
3. Standard web browser plug-in (Netscape-style)
For Firefox, Opera, Chrome, and most web browsers other than Internet Explorer.

Download: alternatiff-1_8_5.exe

Save this file to your computer, then open it and follow the instructions.
