Ambassador McEldowney Speaks at the AmCham Business Breakfast Discussion Following the Election of America’s 44th President

November 5, 2008 - In heartfelt remarks at the AmCham Business Breakfast Discussion following the election of America's 44th President, Ambassador McEldowney addressed Georgi Pirinski, Chairman of the National Assembly of Bulgaria, as well as a room full of businessmen, journalists, and media.  She spoke about the most important internal issues for the U.S. – the economy, its social identity, and the definition of party politics – assuring everyone of the overarching American belief in the power of the U.S. democratic system.  The Ambassador’s remarks were followed by a cannonade of questions from the audience, covering important topics like the impact of the U.S. election on Bulgaria, the change that the new President-elect will bring to America and the world, and the economic and political stability of the Balkans.

Ambassador McEldowney Talks about Life and Career on NOVA TV

On November 4, Ambassador McEldowney appeared on one of the most popular television shows – the Nova TV Morning Show – in a hearty conversation with anchor Lora Krumova, talking about her family, professional career, and her goals as Ambassador of the U.S. in Bulgaria.  The Ambassador commented on the U.S. Elections by saying two strong candidates were running for office, and they each have laid out important decisions for the future of America.  However, she explained, no matter who is elected President of the United States, the partnership between the two countries will remain strong.

U.S. Presents 53 HMMWVs to the Bulgarian Government

Ambassador Nancy McEldowney speaks with Bulgarian and American soldiers during the HMMWVs donation ceremony in Varna Port West on November 3, 2008.  The U.S. officially presented the 53 new vehicles to the Government of Bulgaria to assist the Bulgarian Armed Forces as they modernize and strive to meet NATO standards of interoperability.

Call for Proposal for the 2009 Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP)

The U.S. Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria is currently accepting proposals for the 2009 Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation: http://www.exchanges.state.gov/afcp/index.html.
AFCP supports preservation projects in the following three categories:
- Objects and collections of objects from a museum, site, archive, or similar institution.
- Cultural sites - includes (but is not limited to) historic buildings and sites, sacred places, monuments, and archaeological sites.
- Forms of traditional cultural expression - documenting and audiovisual recording of traditional music, dance forms, or storytelling as part of a traditional expression. (more)

U.S. Army Awards $61 Million Project for Construction at Joint Training Facility in Novo Selo 

Bulgarian firms win 11 of 13 contracts in project

September 18, 2008 - The U.S. Army has awarded a two-year, $61.15 million project for construction at the Joint Training Facility in Novo Selo, Bulgaria.  Eleven of the thirteen companies winning contracts for the project are Bulgarian.  The other two companies are American and Italian. (more) 

U.S. Army Awards Three More Contracts in Support of this Summer’s Joint Training at  Novo Selo Training Area

The U.S. Army awarded three more contracts worth over $300,000 for this summer’s joint exercise, Bulgarian Panther 08. The contracts will provide goods and services for soldiers training at Novo Selo Training Area, including procurement of morale, welfare and recreation services and equipment as well as temporary motor pool vehicle services. Important Information for Prospective Applicants for Jobs in the Joint Military Facilities 

U.S. Army Europe and the U.S. Embassy do not hire directly to fill vacancies in the joint U.S.-Bulgarian military facilities.  The Bulgarian and/or international companies that are awarded contracts for goods and services will be responsible for hiring personnel for work in the joint military facilities, based on the type of jobs needed in the awarded contracts.
