NEW ORLEANS, La. - A series of workshops on Advisory Base Flood Elevations and Increased Cost of Compliance, known as ICC, will begin April 26. Each workshop will include an afternoon segment for elected officials, building officials, adjusters, insurance agents, and lenders. In the evening, a segment will be offered for the general public. ICC coverage is provided under insurance policies from the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) of the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

FEMA's recently-released Flood Recovery Guidance provides advisory information concerning coastal flood elevations and interior levee ponding elevations that can be used to guide recovery efforts for property owners. ICC is part of the standard flood insurance policy offered by NFIP and coverage enables eligible NFIP policyholders who reside in high-risk flood hazard areas to receive up to $30,000 to assist with the cost of bringing their homes or businesses into compliance with local floodplain ordinances.

Diana Herrera, an NFIP specialist with FEMA, urges interested parties to make plans to utilize this opportunity. "We want people to understand the options that are available when making the rebuilding decisions," said Herrera.

The technical workshops for officials will be from 3 - 5:00 p.m. in each location.  The public will have an opportunity to ask questions at a session from 7 - 8:30 p.m. in each location.
