BATON ROUGE, La. -- After more than 24,000 visits since its opening on Oct. 1, 2005, the Laurel Elementary School Disaster Recovery Center located on 820 Jackson Avenue will close on April 15 at 5 p.m.

“As relief and recovery efforts continue in Louisiana, closing this DRC will enable us to focus our resources to assist the maximum number of people,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Scott Wells.

Applicants may also access information by calling the Helpline at 1-800-621-3362. Those who may be hearing- or speech-impaired may call 1-800-462-7585. Hours of operation are Mon. through Sat. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

At all open DRCs, representatives of state, federal, as well as customer service representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration, are on hand to answer questions and provide recovery information. No cash, checks, debit cards or vouchers are distributed at Disaster Recovery Centers. These centers are for the dissemination of information to assist in victim recovery. Written materials about various state and federal programs are also available to individuals and business owners.
