This working paper researches environmental differences regarding patient safety and medical errors, particularly within rural areas. It examines competency measures and further research that will result in relevant patient safety practices for rural hospitals. Topics include rural-urban variances in hospital information processes and flows, patient safety and systems approach, and strategies to reduce human and medical error.
