The Office of Investigations (OI) conducts investigations
throughout the United States in response to complaints or
allegations regarding violations of Federal law. Special
agents identify and investigate cases of waste, fraud and abuse in
agency programs and operations, and refer cases for prosecution and
monetary recovery action.
Criminal investigations may involve:
- Fraudulent receipt of retirement, disability, sickness or
unemployment benefits by annuitants or railroad workers
- Conspiracy to defraud RRB benefit programs
- False reporting by railroad employers
- Criminal violations by agency personnel
OI Special Agents also conduct administrative investigations
involving misconduct or violations of ethical standards and
prohibited personnel practices by RRB personnel.

OI maintains two field offices, one in the agency's
headquarters in Chicago, IL and one in Philadelphia, PA.
