The Smithsonian is sometimes called "America's attic." It includes 16 museums and galleries, and the National Zoo. It owns over 140 million items that are important to America's history. You can explore all of the Smithsonian museums exhibits online and find games and fun stuff for kids and adults. There are even guides available on line in six different languages.

Threshold Magazine More Than Field Trip

The Winter 2008 issue of Threshold: Exploring the Future of Education features articles on the informal learning opportunities at local museums and libraries. The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and Cable in the Classroom (CIC), the cable industry's education foundation, partnered on the issue to underscore the organizations's long-standing commitment to education and literacy.
