"We have it in our power to begin the world over again."
- Thomas Paine, Common Sense, 1776

Since the 1600s America was the land of opportunity, a destination for European exiles, adventurers, fortune hunters and freedom-seekers. Thirteen distinct colonies grew and prospered, sharing only boundaries and loyalty to the British crown. But starting in 1763, common worries over colonial rights escalated into a united protest against the King and Parliament.

Over the next 25 years of conflict and improvisation, Americans became the most successful revolutionaries in world history. This exhibit presents this period in chronological progression through a series of questions: Who were we? What was the problem? When did it happen? Where did we go from there? Why did it take so long? How did we do?

But we all know how our nation began ... or do we? Welcome to The Revolution! Our story is an extraordinary saga of a rebellion carried out by a unique blend of people called Americans who forever changed the world.
